Yankee Fire Contained at 55 Acres Friday
from Patch
A brush fire was contained on Friday at Camp Pendleton at 55 acres. It was near the Orange County line but smoke could be seen in Fallbrook.
“OCFA (Orange County Fire Authority) supported the Camp Pendleton Fire Department in battling the flames.
North County Fire Protection District issued a smoke advisory for the district, which serves the communities of Fallbrook, Bonsall and Rainbow. Although smoke was visible in the area, there was no threat to the district.”
Proposition 2 Would Allow State to Borrow Billions to Modernize Schools
from Voice of San Diego
Proposition 2 (one of 10 on the November ballot) would authorize the state to borrow $10 billion to build and modernize K-12 and Community Colleges but the funding would be contingent on matching funds.
“The bond would dedicate $8.5 billion to K-12 districts. That includes $3.3 billion to build new schools, $4 billion to modernize existing campuses, $600 million for career technical education and another $600 million for charter schools. The remaining $1.5 billion would pay for upgrades to community colleges.
The money could be used to replace school buildings that are at least 75 years old, are in military installations, or part of small school districts. It could also be used for certain health and safety measures, including seismic safety improvements and testing and fixing drinking water systems contaminated with lead. And it could be spent to expand broadband access on campuses.
Small, rural and low-income districts typically don’t have the property tax base to support expensive school construction projects. Without local dollars, they’re at a disadvantage competing against bigger, urban districts for state matching funds, opponents of the school bond argue.”
Both Fallbrook Union High School and Bonsall Unified School Districts will have their own Bond measures on the ballot to modernize or build a new school.

Escondido Anti-Abortion Clinic Sues State Attorney General
from Times of San Diego
Culture of Life Clinic in Escondido filed a Federal lawsuit two weeks ago against the State Attorney General Rob Bonta alleging that he is “targeting protected speech and activities” because his office is suing anti abortion clinics such as this for marketing so-called abortion reversal pills.
“The clinic, which states on its website that it provides “Christ- centered medical care and pregnancy clinic services,” is headed by Dr. George Delgado, who is credited with founding the abortion pill reversal procedure, sometimes abbreviated as APR.
APR proponents say that after a pregnant woman takes mifepristone with aims of terminating a pregnancy, she can counteract its effects by taking the hormone progesterone within 72 hours.
But Bonta’s office accurately says there isn’t any scientific evidence to support abortion pill reversal’s efficacy or safety.”
Filing Wrapped Up for Most Races - Pro Censorship Candidates Will Be on the Ballot
Four candidates have filed for 3 positions on the Fallbrook Union High School District. 2 are incumbents. A firefighter, Lewis Haskell, filed for Area 2, unopposed. Someone else could still file by Wednesday. Area 5 incumbent Eddie Jones is unopposed so he will not be on the ballot. Area 5 incumbent Oscar Caralampio is being challenged by Joshua Tiller who is endorsed by the pro censorship Fallbrook Freedom Fighters.
Five candidates have filed for 4 positions on the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District. Incumbents Frank Golbeck (area 1) and Ricardo Favela (area 3) are unopposed so they won’t be on the ballot. Incumbent Constance Fish has a challenger, Maria G. Moran in Area 4. It’s unknown at this time who supports Moran. Fish was endorsed by FETA (Fallbrook Teachers Union) and unanimously selected by the other Board members. Caravan owner, Leslie Sommers has filed for Area 2 which could potentially still get another competitor, because the incumbent Suzanne Lundin did not file to run again.
Ten candidates have filed for 8 positions for the Fallbrook Community Planning Group. Republican incumbents Stephani Baxter, Lee De Meo, Jim Loge and Roy Moosa filed. Democratic incumbents Tom Harrington and Ross Pike filed. Mark Mervich who lost his seat in 2022 is running again. New candidates are retired Marine Aldo Alvidres (owner of Lucky Ace Barbershop), Mark Hoye (owner of RunBuggy, freight broker), and Kathie Morris (owner of Jewelry Connection).
There are 3 candidates running for 3 positions for the Fallbrook Regional Health District. The only incumbent is Howard Salmon in Zone 5, so he will not be on the ballot. The other 2, Anabel Canseco (owner of the Busy Bee) running for Zone 2 and Sally Devito (Registered Hospice Nurse) running for Zone 4 could potentially still draw rivals.
Two incumbents ran for 3 Fallbrook Public Utility District seats. Dave Baxter (owns The Vineyard 1924) in Division 1 and Jennifer Demeo, Division 3, so they won’t be on the ballot. No one filed for Division 4 so far.
Two incumbents and 4 other candidates are running for 3 seats on the North County Fire Protection District. Ross Pike and Jeff Ekgan are running in Divisions 1 and 4. Jeanette Barragan who owns the Seven Studio hair salon is running to defeat Ross Pike. John Van Doorn who used to sit on the Fire Board but got districted out in 2020 is running against Jeff Ekgan. Retired Fire captain, Mark Bartholomew is running in District 5 against Sheila Lancaster, a retired legal secretary.
Three candidates are running for 2 seats in Bonsall Unified School District. Incumbents Larissa Anderson and Eric Ortega are running for Areas C and E. Fallbrook Freedom Fighter (pro-censorship) Lindsay Jones is running against Ortega in Area E. She enjoys the endorsements of State Senator Brian Jones, Republican Minority Leader; Jim Desmond, County Superintendent; Rebecca Jones, San Marcos Mayor; fire captain Paul Christenson, Fallbrook High School Trustee (pro-censorship); Jacqueline Kaiser, Palomar College Board; Lee Demeo, Stephani Baxter, Kelly Hansen and JJ Neese, Fallbrook Planning Group; Dave Baxter, Fallbrook Public Utilities District; Jennifer Demeo, Fallbrook Public Utilities District; Mel Svendsen, lead pastor, Riverview Church.
Four candidates are running for 6 positions on the Rainbow Planning Group so they will not go on the ballot: incumbent Greg Doud, Ron Ehrler, Paul Georgantas and Ron Gorr.
Six candidates are running for 4 positions on the Rainbow Municipal Water District. Incumbents Julie Johnson, Hayden Hamilton, Cari Dale and Michael Mack are defending their seats in Divisions 1, 2, 3 and 5. Lisa Hoffman and Greg Irvine are also running in Divisions 1 and 3 so those 2 seats will be on the ballot.
Two candidates filed for 3 seats on the Vallecitos School District. Incumbent Ritsa Chandabandith is running for Area 5 and Heather Reinhardt is running for Area 2. Unless someone else files for Area 2, neither will be on the ballot. Area 1 has failed to elect anyone for years.
